If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my numerous culinary expeditions to Mexico’s vibrant metropolis, it’s that eating in Mexico City is not merely a necessary act of survival, but an art form. While to the untrained eye, a taco might seem like a simple item – a tortilla filled with either meat or veggies – In the heart of Mexico City, it becomes a delicacy. Strolling the streets of Mexico City’s La Roma neighborhood, I stumbled upon Taqueria Los Cocuyos, which is praised by locals and tourists alike. I joined the queue and decided to opt for the Suadero, beef, and a Chorizo taco. Each bite was an eruption of flavor, enhanced by the fresh cilantro and a dollop of spicy salsa.

Mole: A Dance of Ingredients

Now, let’s talk about Mole, a traditional Mexican sauce known for its intricate mixture of spices and chocolate. I made a reservation at Pujol, rated as one of the world’s 50 best restaurants by The World’s 50 Best Restaurant’s list. It’s here, in a chic dining space filled with warm ambient light where the magic of Mexico City’s delicate flavors are brought to life. The richness of the Mole Madre I tasted there, a Mole sauce aged over 1,000 days, is still imprinted in my memories. Its sharp, distinct flavor still has me yearning for more.

The Sweet Cravings

As a self-proclaimed sweet tooth and a churros addict, I spent many evenings satiating my cravings in the historic El Moro, a churro joint established back in 1935. Fresh churros, coated in sugar, dipped in a cup of rich Mexican chocolate – believe me, it’s as satisfying as it sounds.
